The tired constructions of lofty shrines are carefully formed according to the rules of Balinese architecture. Resembling the shape of a Chinese Pagoda, these tiers are called "Meru".

This sacred place comes alive every year on the occasion of "Odalan" commemorating the foundation of Pura Besakih in Bali. Elegantly dressed worshippers carrying offerings throng here. This festive time is perfect to enjoy the charm of this temple at its best.
